TVTime and Mandrake 10 Official.

Hello friends,

I just installed Mandrake 10 Official release after testing Mandrake 10 CE.
I have a Pinnacle TV Studio/Rave Card which worked well with CE and TVTime.

In Mandrake 10 Official, when I install the card, it works with TVTime but when restarting the computer, TVTime says that not input source was found in /dev/video0. Then if I install the card through the Control Center, it works again but when restarting, it doesn't. So, whenever I restart the computer, TVTime has to be reconfigured.

I saw that video0 in /dev/, disappears after rebooting and when reinstalling the card it appears again.

How can I solve this? What should I change and how?

Well, as allways, thank you!

This problem seems to be related to kernel modules. Try listing the current modules with (as root):
lsmod
and look if there's any modules from the tv card. In my setup - I have a pixelview tv card with bttv driver - lsmod lists videodev, bttv and tuner.

If you load tvtime and it says no input source, try this before you reinstall the card (as root):
insmod tv-driver (replace tv-driver with your specific driver) and see if tvtime works.

If you can't find your modules, you'll have to edit your boot script in order to bring up these modules at boot time. I'm not sure how to do it under Mdk, but it shouldn't be difficult.

Obs - I'm not saying that the same modules I see here should appear to you. Depends on the tv chip the card uses. But you should see yours when you lsmod.

How do I know my driver?

Thanks Bruno for your help. By the way, How do I know about my driver? Which one is it? I have a Pinnacle Studio PCTV Rave.

I will really appreciate any detailed help.

Thanks again :-)

Tried to do some research on your card, but pinnacleīs website is quite annoying with those register blah blah... Also, they donīt say anything about linux, just win. That pisses me off.
You have to find out what chip the card uses, and what tuner. The easiest way is to look in the manual and documentation that came with the card. As these cards are win-oriented, itīs likely that the manual wonīt show you that, because installation under win does not ask anything, you donīt have to know.
If the manual does not tell, try looking in the internet for some spec for this card. A more troubling alternative is to open the box and look right in the card itself. Donīt forget the tuner! The tuner is that huge metal rectangle that receives the signal from the antenna connections. The decoding chip is the biggest one in the card.
(If the chip is Brooktree or BT848 or 878 your driver is bttv, and you are happy.)
Once you know these info, you can search the internet for a driver. Good place to start is google. Try "name-of-the-chip linux mandrake" or something like that.

With Mandrake 10 you do not need to download bttv separately, unless you want to use another version.
Just
root> insmod bttv

Ericdevil89, try running
Code:
modprobe bttv
instead. If you need to specify tuner/card options just add them to the command line like so
Code:
modprobe bttv card=xx tuner=xx
--mascdman

Does running modprobe bttv (with no options) auto-detect the card and tuner? If not, then the only Pinnacle PCTV cards listed in /usr/src/linux/Documentation/video4linux/CARDLIST.bttv I see are
Code:
card=39 - Pinnacle PCTV Studio/Rave
card=52 - Pinnacle PCTV Studio Pro
card=94 - Pinnacle PCTV Sat
You can try one of those. If you need to try different tuners, look in the file /usr/src/linux/Documentation/video4linux/CARDLIST.tuner. I can't find anything about a MT2050 in these files.

For a little more information about bttv and Pinnacle cards, see /usr/src/linux/Documentation/video4linux/bttv/Cards
