Unhappy TVBOX and resolution problem

I use Ubuntu 8.04 on a desktop machine. A 17" LCD LG monitor.
I have a external KWORLD TVBOX connected to.
When the machines bootup with the TVBOX connected, I con only choice a 800x600 resolution. But when I connect the monitor directly to the CPU bypassing the TVBOX, I cant set 1024x768 resolution.

There is a kind of resolution verification made by Linux X11 loader before setting the resolution on bootup?

The video is integrated to the Motherboard, but I do a test with another machine with a PCI video card and I have the same problem.

Thanks

with an integrated video chip on the mobo 800x600 may be the max
make a backup of xorg.conf , most likely /etc/X11/xorg.conf
as root
Code:
mv xorg.conf xorg.conf.backup
gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
and add this to the screen section in red
-------------------------------
Code:
Section "Screen"
	Identifier "Screen0"

	Option "metamodes" "1024x768 +0+0; 800x600 +0+0; 640x480 +0+0"

	SubSection "Display"
		Depth 24
		Modes "1024x768" "832x624" "800x600" "720x400" "640x480" "640x400" "640x350"
	EndSubSection
EndSection
------------------------------
that may do it
also have a look at
Code:
man xorg.conf
