Unhappy tv-out with radeon 8500 -> not booting!

Hey y'all,
i got an Athlon processor with RedHat 9 and WinXp installed.
i got a Radeon 8500le with tv-out plug connected at all time
since i like to watch movies and lectures (student) using the tv
anyway, linux will not boot when the tv-out plug is connected to the radeon, once i disconnect it linux boots without a problem but its too much of a hassle to change between xp and linux all the time and plug and unplug the cable to use the tv.

i should say that when the cable is connected it WILL boot into text mode after it failed the graphical one

anyone knows what to do?
please help :-)
