Are there any links that can give me ready knowledge and where I can quickly try hands on on the above two items.Please help.

but you need to also resolve dependency issue.

so try yum for CentOS/FC/RH or apt-get for ubuntu/debein.

The Red Hat site has a huge number of tutorials on all aspects of the distro, including rpms.
