Tutorial not working for me

I was following this tutorial and the problem arises when he says

Enable your ATI driver (By clicking the little box) and let it do its thing. Once finished , reboot the computer and make sure fglrx loaded correctly. There should be an icon (small and green) in the notification area telling you that you have restricted modules loaded.

Every time I enable this and reboot, Ubuntu will not work. It loads, and then right before the login, the screen just goes black (no music, nothing).

On the 3rd page, a user that has the same card as i do (radeon x1300 pro) reported that it worked for him, so whats going on?

Can someone help me get this problem fixed once and for all? (so I dont have to reinstall Ubuntu for the 6th time in the 3 days I've been using it)

Check your xorg logs (/var/log/Xorg.0.log) if they reveal anything.

When your system 'crashes', press <ctrl><alt><Fx> (where x is 1..6). It should take you to a console where you can login. Most things can be fixed from there.

You can use the command less /var/log/Xorg.0.log to view the contents. Search for EE by pressing '/' (without quotes) and typing EE followed by enter. This will reveal the errors.

Did you check whether the xorg.conf file was actually modified by the system? Does it show flgrx as a driver for the videocard?

i think i found out whats wrong.

I have a computer from dell, and they use "special" parts, not normal ones from manufactures (or something like that, idk somebody explained it to me).

It detects my video card as an "Ati radeon Unknown Device" or something like that (with some numbers). I dont remember the actual word for word description, if someone knows the command to find out, let me know (I dont remember what command I used)
