turning GUI (GNOME) on/off....

I am a Linux newbie here. I guess you can say I know some of the basic stuff at this stage. I had used Slackware before and now I am currently running Fedora Core 2. My question is that with Slackware it booted up normally in Terminal, and I start the GUI by typing Startx. In Fedora it automatically boots up in GNOME. How abouts would I fix this so it boots up 1st in Terminal, then I can start GNOME from there?

I should mention, I have never editted a config file before and I have a feeling that is what I'll need to do.

Yep, you need to edit /etc/inittab.

Find the line that says
Code:
id:5:initdefault:
Change the 5 to a 3 to boot to text mode.

I hope this helps
