Question tty7 is blank using Debian 7 in VirtualBox on Windows 7

Hi

I installed VirtualBox in Windows 7, and I installed Debian 7 on it. Everything went well, and now Im up and running.

I have a slight question. I press ctrl+alt+1-6 and I get the separate terminals. ctrl+alt+8 is my GUI.

ctrl+alt+7 is just a blank screen, I can type in it, but nothing else happens. What is that?

It should've been your GUI.
Did you start X from console? Or was it from login window after boot?
Did you enable 3d in VBox settings before booting VM?

I am not 100% sure, but I think I did not enable 3d in VBox. EDIT: 3D Acceleration and 2D Video Acceleration are NOT enabled.
I set it up to boot into GUI directly. Then I logged in, and then logged out, and then from the GUI login screen I pressed the ctrl+alt+1-7 to find that tty7 is empty. I can log in and out from GUI and command line in any order and combination and the tty7 is still blank.

Thanks for answering.

Try logging in & not logging out just go to another console & see which 1 takes you back to Desktop? How many desktop environments do you have?
Also you should enable 3D in Vbox settings

Hey, I enabled 3D and I tried again, and it was all how it is supposed to be. tty8 did not exist. tty7 was the GUI.

I think it was the 3D.

Thanks
