tty1-tty6 black screen with 2.6.6
Hello:
Couple of days ago I compiled myself a cool new 2.6.6 and replaced my previous 2.4.18-bf24 kernel. Apart from confronting and successfully solving some minor issues, I am quite happy with it - runs faster, makes my PC look as if hardware upgraded. :) To the point - a feature I use a lot is now gone. During boot, I get all the usual messages, but once in KDE(tty7), I cannot switch to other consoles (CTRL+ALT+F1, F2..F6). When I try this, the screen goes completely black (as if BLANK SCREEN screensaver is on). Things to note: - Debian Sid - P3-1GHz box with 512 RAM - KDE 3.2.2 - ATI AIW Rage 128 Pro with no drivers installed - vesa works just fine for me :) - framebuffer enabled in kernel - vga=normal in lilo.conf - normal messages on screen during boot - Googled linux forums for the past two nights to no avail Could anyone help me with this? I would like to keep the 2.6.6. However, if I fail to find a solution, I would have no choice but to go down to 2.4.26 as I know it works like a Maybach on my laptop. Agent Smith |
