I think you're far better off booting off of the Fedora 12 DVD and going through the upgrade option, rather than trying to upgrade RPMs individually by hand.

An upgrade from F-8 to F-12 may be difficult. The problem you're encountering has to do with changes to rpm itself. Try upgrading rpm and its dependencies first, then go for the rest of the upgrade. The new rpm uses xz compression; this was not available in the old version, hence the errors you're seeing.

a upgrade from fedora 8 to 12 is Imposable

do a fresh install after reformatting the disk back to a BLANK partition.

Direct upgrade from F8 to F12 is impossible.
But two-step upgrade can be an option.

Recently I myself did F8 -> F10 -> F12, without any major issues.

Definitely not impossible, but quite possibly a lot more trouble than it's worth.

Hi Friends,

Thanks for all of your useful suggestions. Lemme try the upgrade from fc8 --> fc10 then fc10 --> fc12. And will update you soon.
