Thumbs up Hope this helps some.

I hate to say buy a book, but I've found a lot of good books for all Linux dists. O'reilly maks some good ones, but they remind me of Cliff Note's books. SAM's makes some good ones too. I'm using the GNU/Debian Linux Bible, and it lists about every type of program on that Linux dist. They have one's just like it for all the dists. Also lists all the packages included in each dist. Sorry, I'm a newb too so that's about all I can tell you. Only been using Linux for about a week. :P

easiest way i found to learn console commands and stuff is to just use 'man -k' a lot, give it a word like route and it will list all programs that list themselves using that keyword
