trying to reinstall linux: won't boot from cd-rom

Hi.
Recently I got the problem of "FUCK:Can't find kmalloc()" and thought of reinstalling RH9. I burned 3 cds from linuxiso.org which are iso files.
When I try to boot the PC it does not boot from CD-Rom. I tried manually to set the primary-master to CD-room so that it could boot from cd but i get the error that it does'nt find the primary master.
How can i boot it? Appreciate any hints.

Did you have the BIOS set to check for your CDROM before starting from the hard disk?

boot

yes, the order is cd-rom, ide HD, and removable device(floppy).
I thought first m.b the cd burned and the files are corrupt but I can boot when I login and then I have only the possibility of updating packages.
