Trying to recover a data partition which cylinder should I begin searching at?

The entire hard disk is 1.5TB

The partition I hope to recover is 900GB

There were two partitions

[ 600 GB - OS partition ] [ 900 GB - the data partition to recover ]

Which cylinder should I begin searching at?

And which program do you recommend?

TestDisk EaseUS

I can use GParted / Knoppix / MS Win 7

It says there are 182401 cylinders

You don't say why you want to use cylinders, it would be easiest to just mount that partition from a 'live' distro.

If you've messed up the boot record, check out how to recover using 'super blocks'.
