Trying to re install linux after a power failure aborted the prevous up grade to 10.1
I am trying to re-insatll Linux on my laptop after a power failure aborted an upgrade to 10.10.
I am stuck it seems at creating ext4 file system for / in partition #1of scsi (0,0,0,) progress bar shows 5% and hard disc light is on but nothing seems to be happening message ends up being "file system creation failed" I have reverted to trying to install 9.4 this gave me the options to check disc for errors and there were none and to test the memory - both seemed to be OK I am using a cd for the install can someone help please. Ok I have three times run the dd shell overnight and then tried the 9.04 setup because I have not been able to create a DVD to hold the super Ubuntu OS. I get the same problems when trying to install, it gets to setting up ext4 filesystem and stops. Any more suggestions please |

Choose 1.3.5. Burn it to CD at no more than 8X. Boot to it. Hit defaults a couple times and at the green & white colored prompt on the page that asks you to choose either "wizard" or "startx" to type in, type in < dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda bs=4096 conv=notrunc, sync > instead and wait for it to wipe your hard drive clean, writing zeros. When it's done, type in startx at the prompt, then gparted at the yellow-colored terminal to partition. Then go to http://hacktolive.org/wiki/Super_OS#DVD-ISO_download and save yourself a lot of hassles by installing SuperOS (really a refined ubuntu) instead. Best wishes! |
I'm not the original poster but don't the new partioning and installation disks start the partitioning schemes with hd0,1 hda1 sda1?

Thank you to my helpers
I eventually worked out that the disk was broken - could not mount a file system, I have bought a new disk and now have at least loaded 10.10 and am struggling with the setup of the network Many thanks again for your help Hilyard and Eddy |

Thanks Bill (DragonSlayer48DX) I am not sure what to do when I have downloaded Super OS10.10.iso
I have started to download from the torrent site and seams to be download at 146Kb/s I did do this 2/3 weeks ago but could not get it to install. I had save it to desktop but could not find how to check the Hash with md5sum. I was able to burn it to a DVD but not to install it. The DVD seamed to be trying to install a "Windows Version" via .exe install. Please can you advise me what I must do the get this the work, as I have been trying to do this for over year since I first installed Ubuntu 9.04 in 2009 Richard |
I seam to be going round in circles, when I go to http://hacktolive.org/wiki/Super_OS_repository and click on apt://super-os.(On the right hand side of list of SuperOS)
Launch Application window appears..saying...This link needs to be opened with an application. Software-center …. Choose an Application …. I do NOT understand what application I should use? Please Help All I wish to do is to install SuperOS 10.10 on to Ubuntu10.10 How is this done? |
