Trying to install Pear 5 on PC with Intel GMA 950 graphics: limited resolutions...
I have just tried to bring an oldish* PC back to life with Pear linux (the ubuntu one with a 'maclike' skin).
The screen shows at 1024 x 768 and i'm not sure how to improve it. Initially it seems to think its a laptop (its not the comp is an older Sony Vaio media PC a white round one with core 2 duo and 1 GB ram) connected to a 19" Acer monitor.
I clicked settings and display and also detect display and it finds the monitor. Then if I delect 'mirror' I can 'select' the acer monitor, but if I try to select one of the higher resolutions it all goes wrong - either the display just goes blue and I see nothing or it does get more detailed, but the conmputer crawls so slowly.
Do I need a graphics card driver? I'm quite new to Linux. I know the monitor is good up to 1440 x 900 when I used Windows 7.
* the model is a Vaio VGX-TP1 Media Center PC (from approx 2007) with Intel GMA 950 graphics.
