Trying to install latest Flash into Mozilla directory, but it is read-only

I am trying to update Macromedia Flash to the latest possible version of 7, to see if it will make Yahoo videos work, using Adobe's instructions. It was about 40 versions behind, even though I am doubting that it will make any difference.

When I try to install the package, I find that the assumed installation path of Mozilla does not exist on my system and the only place where it does exist is under /opt, where it is read-only, and /home/justin/.gnome2/yelp.d/mozilla, instead of /usr.

What other installation options are there and/or will it even make any difference?

Should check out the flash 9 beta. Works very well. Less dropped frames. Audio more in sync with video.
