Trying to install l2tp/ipsec vpn in linux mint 16 petra

Hello,
I am a newbie for sure.
I got instructions from my vpn how to install using instructions for ubuntu. After much searching I foundTorGuard.net which gives me the same instructions.
Using Terminal I am asked for a password. It seems the password should be my user password. But Terminal won't let me enter it beyond the first 3 characters. I try using "sudo password (mine) same thing. I enter the apt-add line fine at the $ sign but then am asked for password for (my name). I try to enter my user password same thing, won't let me. Is there another way to enter the network details in Linux Mint 16 Petra other than using Terminal.
Many thanks

Not sure what l2tp is.. guess it's a vpn specific program to login into (the vpn?).

- You may need to set up your password (for 12tp) either prior or during the install (of 12tp).

- If you are talking about something else, like just logging into as 'root' or another Admin related user.. then please explain.

Depending on how you setup your initial login (during install of your distro).. the procedures are a little different... but not complicated.

- You may need to add the user '12tp' (or whatever name it likes.. check that out in your docs for it).

Finally worked it out after reading through a couple of forums. The password doesn't show at all while you are typing it in Terminal. It is entered but you can't see it happening so you have to trust you get it right. Mint gives you 3 tries before you have to start over.
I even managed to install the vpn.
Thanks for the response
