Question Trying to install Canon printer on home wireless network using Fedora OS

I've never used Linux before and my boyfriend has but even he's stumped as how to install our printer. We have a Canon MF4370dn hooked up to our wireless network. We also downloaded the CUPS for linux directly from Canon. How do your install a new piece of hardware like this? I've personally tried using the printer configuration under my system settings but had no luck. Also...what's my URI for my printer? How do I find that? Any info, even a pointer in the right direction, would be helpful. Thanks!

Exclamation

well it depends on the file type usually there tar.gz or source file... This link here should solve that problem. Usually I use Arch Linux so the database for cups is always up to date.

I dont know what Distro you use .. Ubuntu is sudo apt-get install cups && apt-get update...

Best chart for most distro package managers in terminal commands is Pacman Rosetta

Ubuntu also has a bugs webpage for current system printer bugs

Good Luck!

PS would highly reccommend backing up system. Cups can hang and cause issues.

Unfortunately that didn't help us. The CUPS already has an install package however we can't get it to work. We are running Fedora 17 KDE Desktop edition.

Does the printer connect to the network as a SAMBA printer?

If so, this Ubuntu tutorial should help (should be similar enough to Fedora);
http://ubuntu.paslah.com/remote-printers/

Open Printing documentation could help;
http://www.linuxfoundation.org/colla.../documentation

Particularly, using ppd documentation may be helpful;
http://www.linuxfoundation.org/colla...ddocumentation

Unfortunately that isn't helping either. The printer is not hooked up via SAMBA. We originally had Windows 7 on our computers so thats how it was installed and connected on the network.

you might be out of luck

most people running Linux go out of their way to AVOID using Cannon hardware
cannon is VERY linux UNFRIENDLY ( also Apple Mac unfriendly )

the usa cannon site dose not even have the linux drivers and cups code that the UK cannon site dose

i have a old install of XP
just for ONE piece of cannon hardware

plug it is using the USB and NOT the wireless ( it might be looking for a MS windows machine on the network)
and see if that works
