Unhappy Trying to install BitTorrent...

hi.

i need some help, been trying for the last 2 days to install bittorrent and it's proving impossible!

i downloaded the rpm
BitTorrent-5.0.3-1-Python2.4.noarch.rpm
and it's in my home directory.

i attempt to install the RPM and get this message:
Code:
[root@local123 ~]# rpm -ivh BitTorrent-5.0.3-1-Python2.4.noarch.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
        /usr/bin/python2.4 is needed by BitTorrent-5.0.3-1.noarch
        python(abi) = 2.4 is needed by BitTorrent-5.0.3-1.noarch
        python-crypto >= 2.0 is needed by BitTorrent-5.0.3-1.noarch
        python-psyco is needed by BitTorrent-5.0.3-1.noarch
        python-twisted >= 2.0 is needed by BitTorrent-5.0.3-1.noarch
        python-zopeinterface is needed by BitTorrent-5.0.3-1.noarch
        wxPython >= 2.6 is needed by BitTorrent-5.0.3-1.noarch
now i have been trying for the last 24 hours to install python but have no idea where to begin and am now back to square one. if anyone has any ideas how to fix this error please tell me.

EDIT: sorry i forgot to meantion i'm using CentOS 4.4 (unless you recommend another) and have install via yum "yum groupinstall "Developoment Tools" successfully but doesn't help

Try the following command as root.

#yum install python

Then try to install the BitTorrent. Again if you see package dependencies then use yum to install those missing packages.

Hope this helps.

yeah i've done that, it turns out "python" is not part of it.

here's yum's output on successfully installing python executed by "yum install python"
Code:
Dependencies Resolved

=============================================================================
 Package                 Arch       Version          Repository        Size
=============================================================================
Updating:
 python                  i386       2.3.4-14.3       update            4.8 M

Transaction Summary
=============================================================================
Install      0 Package(s)
Update       1 Package(s)
Remove       0 Package(s)
Total download size: 4.8 M
so it turns out bittorrent is wanting something other than just the python package via yum.
btw here's the bittorrent package i'm trying to install:
http://download.bittorrent.com/dl/Bi...2.4.noarch.rpm
abailable at http://www.bittorrent.com/download.html
