Trying to export email from one distro to another

I have two boxes, one with Kubuntu and the other with XP and Ubuntu. I want to overwrite the Kubuntu one with another distro but much of my email is on it in Evolution and also in Thunderbird. Sloppy, but that's what I've got.

I can find no menu options to export my email/news to a standard format (Berkley?) in either prog. If I did, I'm also a bit lost as to how it would get to the other box: the Nautilus file browser is not a patch on Explorer for ease of copy 'n pasting and command line 'cp' seems to only work on one file at a time...

How can I
a) export my email files and
b) how can I move them to the target machine and
c) import them into a compliant emai client?

Thanks in advance,

Pofadda

just take the raw files from your $home... you should be able to find everything in there
