Trying to connect wirelessly w/Broadcom BCM4318 chip
I installed Ubuntu 9,10 (kernel 2.6.31.16). Ethernet connection to Ubuntu and wireless connection to dual boot Windows XP both work fine. But, I am frustrated trying to connect wirelessly via Ubuntu. I've done a lot of reading and trial-and-error installs to no avail! I think I'm confused about potetial conflicts between b43, Broadcom STA driver and ndiswrapper (for Windows drivers). My wifi switch is 'on'. In Systm/Administration/ Hardware Drivers, no drivers appear. I've updated the repositories several times, and am up to date on those.
1) I originally installed ndiswrapper, and then Broadcom (windows) driver files bcml5.inf and bcml5.sys. That didn't work. I then blacklisted ndiswrapper.
2) I installed b43-fwcutter (so SPM tells me)
3) I installed b43 (32 files) and b43-legacy (16 files) in the lib/firmware folder
4) I ran several commands, with the following results:
1) Lshw -c network[/B][/U][/U][/U][/B] (is device recognized?)
joseph@joseph-laptop:~$ lshw -c network

At this point, I think I am worse off than when I started. It doesn't appear that my wireless device is now recognized, let along working with the correct driver!
Any help would be appreciated
