Yes, Linux supports SSD. It sounds like you are having a problem with GRUB, the default Ubuntu bootloader. You can boot into the Ubuntu live cd and try re-installing GRUB or boot to any linux install/live disc and select linux rescue to try and determine the cause of the problem.

Make sure that GRUB is written to the MBR of the target boot device. You may be writing GRUB to the wrong harddrive/disk. If your installing Ubuntu on /dev/sda1, then GRUB should be installed to /dev/sda not /dev/sda1. Regardless of which harddrive you install GRUB too, the BIOS should try to boot to that disk first.

The raid shouldn't make a difference if it is hardware controlled and Ubuntu recognized it.

If the RAID is on the Motherboard I would lay odds that it's not true hardware RAID but more likely fakeraid.
Another test would be the price of the motherboard, Was the motherboard over $400.00 ? then it's fakeraid.
A decent RAID controller will Start around $300.00 and go up, so if the motherboard is that same price or less than a Hardware RAID controller, simple logic dictates that the board doesn't have a Hardware based RAID controller on it. so you can't configure RAID inthe BIOS then expect things to just work.. doesn't happen like that with FakeRAID

It looks like the RAID on that board is the Intel ICH10R

If you want True hardware RAID controller, then you need to invest in a RAID controller such as LSI, 3Ware, etc..
