Trouble with using xfce themes

I am trying to figure out for 2 days now how to get new themes working. I downloaded some themes and created a folder in /home/user/.themes (it didn't exists when i pressed ctrl h). I put the themes into the folder and still nothing shows up in Menu > settings > appearances. I also tried using the usr/share/themes and placed them there but still nothing appears, I restarted the computer after doing it to see if they will work and nothing. I also tried to download some basic themes, nothing fancy like Shiki-Colors (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.p...?content=86717) and still nothing. I tried dragging the folder to styles window and it also doesn't add. I am confused, I really want to change the bland theme and use some nice downloaded ones, hope someone can help. Thanks

Have you extracted the themes before putting them in the appropriate folders (you have chosen the correct ones)?

This is what I have in the ~/.themes folder and all these work.

Code:
$ ls ~/.themes/
DarkOrangeBird  Shiki-Brave  Shiki-Dust  Shiki-Human  Shiki-Illustrious  Shiki-Noble  Shiki-Wise
How exactly did you check to see if they work? I can select these themes in Appearance tool (see attached image).

i have it like

bash-4.2$ ls ~/.themes/
Shiki-Colors xfwm4

The reason there is xfwm4 in there is because I was testing to see if I directly put the folder if they will work. It's just a copy of shiki colors and it did not work.

The weird part is, I used the orta installer thats included in the package and it installed correctly, yet when I download themes and place them myself it does not work?

Nope. Each of the shiki-* entries above is a different theme. xfwm4 folder is used to describe the theme for the window managers. So, a theme should contain xfwm4 folder inside if it has theming information for the window manager.

What I posted there is from the clearlooks theme by the way.
