[lukai@192 lukai]$
[lukai@192 lukai]$ pkg-config --modversion freetype2.pc
Failed to open 'freetype2.pc': No such file or directory

[lukai@192 lukai]$ ls /usr/lib/pkgconfig

You don't include the .pc. The command and result looks like
Code:
81 files(65M bytes) - /home/weibullguy
weibullguy@aragorn for 268D10h16m $ pkg-config --modversion freetype2
9.8.3

[lukai@192 lukai]$ pkg-config --modversion freetype2
Package freetype2 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `freetype2.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'freetype2' found
[lukai@192 lukai]$
[lukai@192 lukai]$

when I use the command that you offer,it shows the errer message.
but I have installed freetype2
how can I do?

I continue to explore the problem
my linux version is redhad 9,and I use command "rpm" to find how many package I have installed
I found such as freetype, fontconfig and other package is installed, but the version is lower
now I install higher version on it by tarball and have not unistall the old version, maybe it caused many problem
now i dont know how to deal with these problems

the only thing that I want to do is to install msn,but the version is lower so cant connect normally.
