Trouble with Login/Startup on Ubuntu

Hello, I have a laptop running Ubuntu Feisty Fawn, and I have typed this post from another computer.

In the login option window I checked "enable accessible login." Right after I logged off, the screen went blank. The next time I turned on my laptop, the login screen wouldn't show up. The screen just stays black with only the cursor running. Unfortunately, I can only go into recovery mode. Would somebody help me with this? If so, much appreciation in advance.

Try editing the file /etc/X11/gdm/gdm.conf. Find the lines that look something like this
Code:
#AddGtkModules=false
#GtkModulesList=gail:atk-bridge:dwellmouselistener:keymouselistener
Make sure the first one is commented out (i.e. has a "#" in front) and says false. Make sure the second line is commented out. This should at least disable accessible login.

New Problem

I have tried to access the file /etc/X11/gdm/gdm.conf as root. Unfortunately, I got a "permission denied" statement. Is there any other way to access the file?

Use the boot CD to boot the system then mount the install directory and do whatever edits you need to do.
