Trouble upgrading to ubuntu 9.04
 

Hey guys have a problem again, hahaha (but it's ubuntu on my emachines pc, not my PS3). Anyway, when jaunty was released a while back in late april, i tried to upgrade from 8.10 to 9.04, and for some reason it just hung on installing the packages. So then i downloaded 9.04 iso and burned it onto a dvd and tried to make a fresh install. When i put the disc in, the ubuntu logo pops up with the loading bar. After about five minutes, I get errors similar to this:

[250,221553] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 2
[250,221997] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 3
end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 0

and then it will repeat that same pattern as the numbers in the brackets climb higher.

Right now I'm on ubuntu 8.04 because that's the original cd I had.

So what is going on here? How can I get a jaunty iso to properly boot into the installation mode? If that doesn't work, is there a way to upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10 and then to 9.04?

Okay right, first these are from the Kernel Buffer, so thats where these are coming from. It looks like there is an error on sr0- this is a scsi device. Possibly the install medium. Make sure the image is correct (check the hashes) and burn to a fresh disk.

Thanks, but I dont think that's the problem. I've burned 9.04 alternate 8.10 desktop and 8.10 alternate, and none of these are working. I've made sure its the slowest rate, and that its burned successfully, but that still doesnt work. I forgot to mention all this in the first post, sorry. But I'll give it one more try.

Is that the installation medium device? Any peripherals plugged in? Strictly speaking its the first scsi device and 9 times out of 10 its the cd/dvd drive. If its not the disk its self, try booting into your normal environment and playing a CD- it could eb the drive it's self, thats what I'd expect.

yup, i popped in a audio cd and it works. you know, i probably am burning it wrong. i'm going to try burning it on a different computer and see what happens
