trouble installing some software

wine, superkaramba, fluxbox, enlightenment....

with wine, it seemed to install fine...but when i run it from the menu it just tries to open it and then disappears..
when i run from the command line - winelauncher it tells me it can't find xmessage

superkaramba, i try to install the mandrake rpm (9.1 - i'm running 10) and it tell me that it needs lipython2.2 i have 2.3 installed...how do i specify or tell it that, or get around that?

fluxbox - the ./configure runs fine, and i beleive even the make runs fine, but when i run the make install i get errors at the end, recursive errors..and i can't find the executable...

enlightenment seems to do the samething as superkaramba, it's looking for a file, but i have a newer version of that file...

what do i do??? i'm too new to know i think....

i want to try all these things out...but i get so frustrated when i get stuck like this....HELP!!!

The installed Wine libraries will not be found!
You can either:
Add the line '/usr/local/lib' to /etc/ld.so.conf and run /sbin/ldconfig
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/local/lib

Create local config file ~/.wine/config?

Searching for an existing Windows installation... found.

Windows was found on your system, and so we can use the Windows
Drive as our Wine drive. You may, however, wish to create a clean
Wine install anyways.
Should I use the Windows drive for the Wine install? (yes/no) no

Configuring Wine without Windows.
Some fake Windows directories must be created, to hold any .ini files, DLLs,
start menu entries, and other things your applications may need to install.
Where would you like your fake C drive to be placed?

You probably want to review the file, though.

Could not stat /mnt/fd0 (No such file or directory), ignoring drive A:
Could not stat /cdrom (No such file or directory), ignoring drive D:
and then it just stops....and being as noobie as i am...i'm lost...what do i do about the library thing at the top, and how do i fix this issue with the cdrom drive and floppy?

i also checked over the wine config

made sure the drives were setup right

Quote:
[Drive A]
"Path" = "/mnt/floppy"
"Type" = "floppy"
"Device" = "/dev/fd0"

[Drive C]
"Path" = "/home/sherlock/c"
"Type" = "hd"

[Drive D]
"Path" = "/mnt/cdrom"
"Type" = "cdrom"
; make sure that device is correct and has proper permissions !
"Device" = "/dev/hdc"
but it still references the old setup...

well after a reboot it no longer errors out on the drives...

but i'm snagged on something else...

when i run notepad, it just goes to the next line and stops...and honestly i have no idea how to break out of that. i tried control c and control z but they didn't break out of it...is there a key command that would break it?

but more to the point, why does it just do nothing?
