Trouble installing a program

Ok, my learning of linux is coming along good. I am getting a good grasp on how ti install most software and hardware. However, I am having trouble installing winamp. This is what I am doing in konsole, this is exactly what I typed:

cd Desktop

(took me to my desktop just fine)

rpm –ivh Winamp-0.a1-1.i386.rpm

(below is the response konsole gave me)

RPM version 4.4.1
Copyright (C) 1998-2002 - Red Hat, Inc.

Usage: rpm [-aKfgpWHqV] [-aKfgpWHqVcdils] [-aKfgpWHqVcdilsaKfgpWHqV] [-aKfgpWHqVcdilsaKfgpWHqV] [-aKfgpWHqVcdilsaKfgpWHqV] [-aKfgpWHqVcdilsaKfgpWHqVK] [-aKfgpWHqVcdilsaKfgpWHqVK] [-aKfgpWHqVcdilsaKfgpWHqVKi] [-aKfgpWHqVcdilsaKfgpWHqVKiv] [-aKfgpWHqVcdilsaKfgpWHqVKiv] [-aKfgpWHqVcdilsaKfgpWHqVKiv?] [-a|--all] [-f|--file] [-g|--group]

[--fileprovide] [--filerequire] [--redhatprovides]
[--redhatrequires] [--buildpolicy=<policy>] [--with=<option>]
[--without=<option>]

but it did not actually do anything.
Now I noticed it said "Copyright (C) 1998-2002 - Red Hat, Inc." at the top, does this mean it is only for red hat? I know the file I am trying to install is older, but shouldn't it still work? Shouldn't kubuntu still work with it? Thnx for any help. I am still reading and learning a lot about konsole so most likely something small that I just don't know yet.

How odd ... what you see there is an error message that you
should only see when you invoke rpm w/o any parameters...

But I wouldn't even bother trying to install that version
of winamp. It's ancient, unmaintained, and has nothing to
offer a current Linux equivalent wouldn't do better.

Cheers,
Tink

Ok. I will find a new version. But still though, some software I am trying to install, even the latest versions, is giving me an answer similar to this, am I using the command correctly?

There *IS* no new(er) version. It's a dead duck.

Hard to answer w/o knowing exactly what you have on your
screen, how it got there, and how you transferred it to LQ.

What do you get when you just type
rpm<ENTER>
what does
rpm -i<ENTER>
say?

Cheers,
Tink
