Trouble getting .avi .mov .mov files to run

I have not been successful in getting .avi, .wmv or .mov video files to run on any of my video players. I mostly use xine, but have not been succesfull with mplayer or kaboodle. I would also like to be able to play streaming video through my web browser. How do i get that to run. I use Konqueror and Mozilla. I am running Suse 8.2...PLEASE HELP!!!

I think you do not have the proper codecs. Mplayer's site has the link to the codecs.

To display the video in a web browser you need plugger for netscape/mozilla.

I have a problem with the in browser streamings...

I have succesfully installed mplayer with all the codecs needed and plugins for mozilla copied plugins to related folders and my browsers are showing that they are installed.. however when I try to steam a file...

In the video place it says that mplayerplug-in playing file/asp** etc.. but it does not actually play the media...
what can be the problem ?

Support for proprietary codecs and video embedding is currently poor on Linux. There are people working on it. Getting it to work as in Windows is very difficult.

You can try using Opera. If you have the right codec that is displaying in the embedded window, Opera will load the right player. For me it works 70% of the time because I didn't have the codecs before I compiled mplayer.
