Triple Screen Setup on Radeon HD 5430

I have Radeon HD 5430 with an HDMI, DVI and VGA outputs. Per AMD's website, up to four monitors can be hooked up to this simultaneously. So my first question is:
  • Which port supports 2 monitors

My guess was the DVI so I bought a splitter (DVI to DUAL VGA). So my setup is VGA out to one monitor and DVI split to two VGA monitors. The result, I can only turn on two monitors (the vga connection and the first of the dvi to vga splitter)

executing xrandr gives me:
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 2560 x 1024, maximum 2560 x 2560
DFP1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DFP2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
CRT1 connected 1280x1024+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 376mm x 301mm
1280x1024 60.0*+ 75.0
1280x960 75.0 60.0
1152x864 75.0 60.0
1280x768 75.0 60.0
1280x720 75.0 60.0
1024x768 75.0 60.0
1024x600 75.0 60.0
800x600 75.0 60.3
800x480 75.0 60.3
640x480 75.0 59.9
CRT2 connected 1280x1024+1280+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 380mm x 305mm
1280x1024 60.0*+ 75.0
1280x960 75.0 60.0
1152x864 75.0 60.0
1280x768 75.0 60.0
1280x720 75.0 60.0
1024x768 75.0 60.0
1024x600 75.0 60.0
800x600 75.0 60.3
800x480 75.0 60.3
640x480 75.0 59.9

CRT1 is the DVI and CRT2 is the VGA. Does that mean DFP1 and 2 are from HDMI?

Also, I installed the AMD Catalyst Control Center and it also shows only two monitors.

3+ monitors only works on AMD HD5xxx and higher GPUs if no more than two of the monitors are non-displayport. If you don't, in fact, have a single displayport connection, you can't run 3 or more monitors.

First of all, thanks for the reply.

According to AMDs website http://www.amd.com/us/products/noteb...430-specs.aspx, it can support up to four. Now I've been searching for an HD5430 with display port, just to check if there is such a thing, and I could not find one (googled, ebay, etc...). So what is AMD referring to?

lspci gives me this so I'm sure I have the right card.
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Park [Mobility Radeon HD 5430]
01:00.1 Audio device: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Cedar HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 5400/6300 Series]

in my experience, when AMD says a GPU supports a certain feature, they are talking about the chip in general, regardless of whether or not any specific video card using that GPU actually makes use of that feature. I do not know if there are any HD5430s with displayport, but even if there are not, that woudn't prevent AMD from claiming four monitors will work on that GPU family.

What I do know is what I've heard the developers say dozens of times on #radeon on Freenode; To use more than two monitors, you have to use display port.
