Tried to create a partition on my harddrive and boots with a system restore

Well, I'm just trying to get into starting to use Linux, so I wanted to create a new partition on my harddrive (which is running Windows XP right now) to put SuSE on. I used partition magic while on Windows and created a new partition on my C drive (the HP that I have already came with a 4gb recovery partition labled as the D: ) and was rebooting after I had made the changes. When the reboot came, it started and HP PC system recovery. This tried to create its own partition, failed, and then leads me to another restart, repeating itself. I went into BIOS (using my limited knowledge) and tried to change the boot device, but I can't seem to select the partitions within the harddrive.

The only solution I can think of right now is to install either Linux or Windows on the new partition (hoping I don't overwrite everything I already have) and being able to change my boot config from there, but I'm not sure that this will work. If anyone could give me any advice on how to at the least just bring my computer back to how it was while still keeping my programs, it would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

1 its possilble you forgot to defrag your MS b4 installing linux in what was to be free space but now has some lost system files?

2 ignore linux for the moment....use your MS cd in rescue mode and see if it can restore your mbr then boot you in ms.....if it does then I can give more tips later but do NOT use PM again pls
