Try SuSE 10. With all defaults SuSE 10 leaves the current Windows install alone, and just makes enough room for itself, then installs and sets it as the default. I have no idea what you might be doing, but between SuSE and mandrake, unless you are changing a lot of the setup options and doing it incorrectly, they should install on pretty much everything with no issues.

What happens, exactly? What point does the install go to. If it finishes, when it reboots, where does it stop booting? Do you get an error? Stuck in CLI?

Can you please be specific.

it installs fine and it getts pased lilo or grub and the screen just blanks outafter it should be viewing the desktop?

see http://eavr.u-strasbg.fr/~loic/toshiba_install.html

I also suggest you try mandriva, it is sometimes quite good with laptops.

If you try to boot with the option single you might be able to go to a command
line and run xorgconf / xorgconfig

Vesa driver should work, and you could try this first.
You could also try a live distro like knoppix if you want to reassure yourself that there is a video mode available that linux understand (and there will be)

It really sounds like a frambuffer / video card badly recognised

PS: [edit] or misconfigured indeed. I did not watch out my English

Sounds like a misconfigured graphic card.

Have you tried booting in "rescue mode", i.e. with no GUI?
