Tricky Partition Remix

Hi,
For a while now I've happily been running Fedora 11 with a virtual vista without many issues. Lately I decided to switch things up and dual boot my hard drive. I Already had a small partition of XP so I reformatted that to Fedora 11. It was at this point, with two Fedora 11 partitions that things started to go a little hay-wire. After the Bios, instead of giving the Boot Loader menu, I was shown Grub commands. Out of great fear, I reformatted the larger partition to Windows Vista. Though this operation was successful I can no longer access the Fedora 11 partition on my hard drive. I had transfered all of my files and would like to get them back. I have tried Explore2fs in Vista but I need Administrative privileges and I am not really all that good with vista.

Do any of you brilliant, beauitiful people have suggestions on how to

A) Fix the bootloader
B) Fix the partition

OR

C) Copy my files onto my vista partition

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Ben

There is some program for Vista, I believe it's called EasyBCD from NeoSmart technologies, that can allow you to edit the Vista bootloader (and tweak it as well). I had something similar to what you're saying happen. Download this, run it, and you should be able to make Vista's bootloader show on startup and choose between OSs.

There is a nice tutorial of fixing grub.

C) Copy my files onto my vista partition
Boot the machine using any live cd and mount the partitions. Copy the data across partitions.

Two tools...

These two tools may be of help to you if other solutions fail, one for Vista boot loader repair if you do not have a Vista DVD, one for Grub repair.

Here is the EastBCD mentioned previously.
