Trash icon vanished from desktop after Gnome 3 desktop upgrade

Hi, I've upgraded to Ubuntu 11.10 (clean install) didn't like Unity and decided to give Gnome 3 desktop environment a try. It's really easy on the eye and nice to use, but I seem to have lost the trash icon from the desktop. I can still left click on anything to send to the trash ... but I can't restore from the trash because I don't know where the icon is. Does anyone know how to restore the trash icon to the desktop?

Does http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/ubunt...buntu-desktop/ still work in this version?

Thanks for replying to my post.
Unfortunately, I pressed Alt + F2 and a little command box appeared. I typed in gconf-editor and the response was "command not found".
Could it be that this command is not found in Ubuntu 11.10 with the Gnome 3 desktop environment? Is there another command that I could try?

Carrying on from my last post ... I now realise that gconf-editor is not installed automatically with Ubuntu 11.10, so, I installed the latest version.
It shows that the trash icon box is indeed ticked, as is the Computer icon yet both are not showing on the desktop. I also have Ubuntu Tweak installed and checked in there if the desktop icon boxes were ticked to show the icons on the desktop, and yes they are. All indications are is that both icons should be appearing on the desktop ... but they don't. I have no idea where to go from here as it seems that something way too technical is involved and is possibly beyond my capacity to fathom out a solution. If you have any other ideas I would be pleased to hear them ... thanks.

In Applications there is a program called Advanced Settings - Desktop. The show desktop icons i.e. trash, Home and other icons can all be activated ... problem solved :)
