tr command

Hello,

For learning purposes, I'm struggling to make some options of the tr command work. It's mainly the [:upper:] [:lower]. How would it work?

For example, this tr command works fine;

tr BCGJTOS bcgjtos < tr.txt
- this just replaces letters in SET1 with SET2 in the tr.txt

But how would the [:upper:] syntax work?

Thanks

Try this:
Code:
 tr '[:lower:]' '[:upper:]' < tr.txt
