Touchscreen and Linux??

I have an Itronix lx260 laptop (gobook III) that has a touch screen. I would like to use linux on it (I have not yet decided on the distro). I have tried several distro's on it but have not yet been able to get the touchscreen to work. So far I haven't found much of use about Linux and touchscreens. I have attempted to locate a specific manufacturer of the touchscreen but all i know is that it is in an Itronix laptop. There website is less than helpful about this.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

I would post this question to the Linux-Harware forum, along with the result of a "lspci -v" command (typed as root)

Newer versions of xorg (from the last 2 years or so, it seems) include drivers for magictouch and microtouch. There's also the evtouch driver, which appears to be a generic evdev driver for touchscreens. So it seems that as long as your kernel recognizes the device as a generating input events, you should be able to use the screen. You'll probably have to manually configure your xorg.conf for it, however. Here's a page on how to configure evtouch.

Note that I've never used any of these drivers, so I can't vouch for how well they work. I'm just reporting what's available. :)

Startx first time doesn't work.

Hi all,

I am not sure if I should post my question here, since it is kind
of related to the touch screen. I am using evtouch driver, everything
seems work, but the weird thing is that I need to startx twice to get
it work. When I looked at the Xorg.0.log, there is no difference between
the first time and second time.

Anyone has the similar problem or got a solution to that.

TIA.

Hi, I am just curious how do you make sure your kernel will at least recognize the device as generating input events? I believe you mean that the device will be mapped to one of the entries under /dev/input/eventX ?

I am also going to be getting several USB / serial touch screen monitors to work with my embedded Linux box.

Thanks
