Totally upset, cant get hulu to play in debian.
I used to get hulu, but the flashplyer will not work.
Anyways I had windows to offset the problem & now the sheeite has a virus that has changed all of the browsers to open as chromium & some kind of trivoli search engine that only goes to adds. I dont expect a resolution as I'm just venting. But I would like to know how to get hulu running on my debian system. |
have you tried this: http://linuxg.net/how-to-install-the...os-and-debian/ ?

I used to run Hulu Desktop in AntiX till Hulu decided not to support it. So now. I use 64bit linux Developer Opera or Chromium with pepper-flashplugin-nonfree since the net is against us Eddy1. Then go to Hulus site like a whipped puppy. Which kind of @#*^ me also so I went with https://popcorntime.io/ |
Thanks to both of you. I'll try both options & get back to you.

It is not clear, but were you able to use the Hulu app before on Debian? You might try 'apt-get upgrade'. You could try creating a new hulu account. Using a different linux OS is an option. Alternatively, you could use a different proxy server, or no proxy server at all. If Flash is used as a plugin, how about reinstalling the browser? Or changing the browser? Is it possible to access hulu from a virtual machine? I'm wondering if flash player would thus be unable to identify the mac address of your hardware. If you subscribe to hulu plus, then this should remedy the problem rather quickly. Youtube has some good videos and you can run it on html5. |
No matter how new the plugin is it doesn't work with hulu, so I will try the ideas mentioned

For firefox / iceweasel, I do a non-standard route on my debian.
adobe.com and download the latest (already has at least 2 updates just this month for security issues). With 11.2.202.440 being the latest (linux) one as of this morning. The link is flash player in the micro text at the bottom right of the main page for the download page. I get the .tar.gz version and untar it in my /home folder for my user. And then link to it in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/ $ tar -xzvpf install_flashplayer.....tar.gz $ sudo ln -s /home/...../libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so Then restart the browser and it works. It should show up in "about:plugins" in the browser. Of course this assumes that no other flashplayer stuff is installed via the distro. And chrome/chromium uses a different flash plugin, but I don't use that browser. Going this route all I have to do is untar the latest flash in my /home/ and restart the browser, since the link remains the same. Plus this route lets me hexedit the version information to trick sites that filter based on a windows version. Most of the webkit browsers like dwb use the same link location for the plugin, and allow GPU acceleration. |
Installing Chrome is a quick workaround. Installing Flash is the right way, and doesn't take much more work.

Just to show Eddy1 what I have on this box. I still prefer popcorn time to Hulu though (personal preferences). Hulu has become to commercialized/commercials for me. I watched X-Men, days of future passed with it.

Just a preview. http://i.imgur.com/4B5972u.png Popcorn time is still in Beta. But I do not care. To each their own. |
@ Shadow 7 I had flashplayer installed but the link wasn't there so I created the link & it worked.
@rokytnji You were right the huludesktop doesn't work, it can't find flashplayer even after editing ~/.huludesktop. I will try popcorn to see what movies they have because the regular hulu doesn't change movies very often. Anyway this thread is solved. Btw. I removed the virus from windows but as you all know there'll be another one. |
