Unhappy Total newbie and any help appreciated

Hi All,
I bought my son an Acer Aspire one with Linpus Linux Lite v1.0.9.E os for Christmas not knowing anything about it.
Could somebody please direct me to an idiots guide for newbies as i don't have a clue about this os.
He cant watch any dvds (via pen drive) or talk to his friends on messenger as i don't have a clue as to how this os works.
I have downloaded vlc player but cant open the file and the same with messenger. The M Player will only play audio and says the codecs are not installed.
Any help would be great.
Thanks Jim.

Hi,

Welcome to LQ!

You could look at the links in my sig. I would also suggest that you look at 'Rute Tutorial & Exposition', a good guide.

This link and others are available from 'Slackware-Links'. More than just SlackwareŽ links!
