Toshiba Tecra 8100 Internal modem

Can anyone tell me how to check if my modem is installed on my laptop? If it is installed how can I test it? Any Input would be greatly appreciated. I'm running Redhat 7.1.:confused:

Test it with kppp.

Select the port (device) then go to modem (query modem) this exercises your modem, identifies it, and show the results.

From what I've gleaned it's supposed to respond as ' dev modem ' unfortunately mine replies modem not found although shown in /proc/pci.

Even worse, it (lt_modem)) somehow conflicts with my external modem, rendering it unuseable.
