Toshiba Satellite won't see network with Ubuntu

Hi all ... I'm a newbie again.

Toshiba Satellite S5214 can't see a network connection. Running Ubuntu 2.6

uname -r says 2.6.31-14-generic
ifconfig only shows loopback 127.0.0.1 with a 000 mask.

Knoppix live cd shows the same ... no network seen.

Wired, not wireless. Works fine in Winblows 7 Home Premium.

2.6 is the kernel version not Ubuntu version

may be the button for wireless switching on/off -which is the combination of Fn button and F# button where F# is from 1 to 9- may be switched off so that the overall wireless functionality of the Laptop is switched off.. try turning it on
BTW sending help to email is not a good idea .posting thoughts on forums is much better

Hi

When you installed ubuntu was the eth0 cable connected it is best to have it connected.
If not dose eth0 wok from ubuntu live cd

we don't know which is the problem with :the ethernet card or the wireless card? please clarify..
