Torrent clients...2 questions.
 

Hey'ya guys...

I'm just wondering...

1. After using utorrent in windows, and using a plethora of other torrent utils in Linux- like Azureus, BitTornado etc., I find that the utorrent downloads were sort of faster. Like I'd get d/l speeds up to 30-40 kbps on utorrent but in other more native clients like TOrnado, Azureus, I can barely get 8-10 kbps. For the EXACT same torrents too.

Basically is utorrent really more efficient in handling downloads?? Or is it just my luck or something???

Utorrent & Wine

2. As I install utorrent for linux using wine, I can run & open the utorrent app fine. I've also specified the download, save paths etc. However, when I try and see the folder utorrent's downloading onto, it's blank. I can see the file w/ wine file browser, but not w/ the file browser. Or even in script...anyone else experience the same probs? Any rectification tips? Thanx.

I have not never used a Win Torrent client through wine on Linux, so I won't be of much help technically with your query, however, I have to ask, why don't you use KTorrent for nix? http://ktorrent.org/ It is a highly configurable Torrent client.

uTorrent is kinda good at helping the user open up its necessary ports. Could the reason your linux-clients doesn't have the same speed be this router-config?

Well, in Bittornado it helps a lot, if you configure the upload and download rate in your ini-file. Look for "max_download_rate" and similar options.

Just out of curiosity, what other Torrent clients for Linux would other members of the forum recommend? I have only used KTorrent to date and would appreciate any feedback on the possibility of a better client being out there.

I only post the Q in this thread as I think it could be relevant and also helpful to the OP. If it is classed as a thread hijack, I will be happy to move the Q to an individual thread.

I use BitTornado, because it's small, fool proof, doesn't get in my way, has never crashed in the last 5 years and it just does what it's supposed to do.

And I'm usally too stupid for fancy GUI torrent clients. ;)

I'd suggest opening ports on your router (if you haven't already) and give ktorrent a try I use it all the time and I can't say I've had any problems.

Deluge is kinda the open-source comparison of utorrent, you could try that
