TOP process left running when Putty terminates

Hi, I am new to LinuxQuestions.org and to Linux (only 2 years) and I have this question that I need help with. I have exhausted all my options and read the internet to death and to no avail.

The problem is: When a Putty session is running the TOP command and the Putty window is closed or times-out, the procession is still left running and consuming a lot of CPU (because it is looping and requiring input).

The Linux administrators are telling me that this is the correct Linux behaviour, but I disagree as I tried to recreate this behaviour on other Linux boxes at other companies and there the session ends successfully when the Putty window is closed that was running the TOP command.

PuTTY Version is 0.58
RedHat Linux 2.6.9-78.0.13.ELsmp #1 SMP Wed Jan 7 17:52:47 EST 2009 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

Please and Thanks

Sorry for this, but after weeks of searching, I found the answer. It seems that the Administrator has added a Logon script to set environmental settings that contained the ‘trap "" 1 2 15’ command. It seems that the ‘trap 1’ caused the problem.

It all seems fixed now. Thanks

Doesn't that always seem to happen?
