Today Officially moving from Windows to Linux (Mandrake 10.1)

Hey guys!!!
What's up!!
Just wanted to let you know I got sick of Microsoft and I am moving all my stuff to Linux Mandrake.
I want to set up my HP dv1125la laptop to use everything under Linux.
I will be installing it this afternoon and hope all goes well.

I'm not used to installing programs in Linux, but I want to learn how to do it.
I saw that to configure a lot of things, even to update KDE to a new version you have to execute a lot of code manually.
Is there an installer done by the people at KDE that can update everything without having to go line by line of code?
Also where can I find a good application that will work as an Outlook 2003 software with calendar, inbox, and pretty much everything to handle my corporate email?

I want to have just Linux and the DVD boot mode that comes with my HP (wich is Linux based as well) and no more Windows.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
I do want an MSN Messenger Emulator to be able to log into their network.

THanks,
Teo

sundialsvcs has a excellent post (Note point 5!!!!)

Mandriva has a decent package management utility, so you won't have to deal with code.

I believe it comes with kmail, which is excellent, but evolution is nice as well for a mail client.

Kopete and Gaim are compatable with AIM, Yahoo, MSN, IRC, and many others. I think kopete comes with Mandriva

with mandrake10.1 u get to choose software during install if you dont have the updated package than the grafical downloaads that ull do later will not work im not on my mandrake right now but i think i saved the link. all the things u need to do to get updates and go threw everything is all set to the mandrake linux site but since they got sued they had to change and more than likely ur dvd/cd wont have the updated sites unless u have a mandriva version. next time im at my mandrake box i will put link in here.

i had this problem when i changed the media packages to upgrade to le2005 i saw the fix for it but again not at that box all i did was reinstall it that way the packages came back to me (older ones) if u have a cd/dvd set from book or box im thinking not burned but hell maybe that too if u put the cd/dvd back in and boot from it ull set language than ull see install or upgrade. do the upgrade it will take all old problems and im almost sure the hanging should stop. if u have 20 mins give it a try.
