Timer Server Sync

I would like to have my machine sync with a time server. I run RH7.1. Could someone point me in the right direction?

personally i just use:

rdate -s tick.august.net

in my /etc/rc.local. you can use the ntp service to synchronize it, but i think that's nomrlaly a bit ott, even if it's not much hassle
