Ummm ...

squid is a web-proxy, it doesn't care about IMAP, POP or SMTP.
thunderbird is a mail-client.

In what way are they related in your opinion?

Cheers,

As far as I have used thunderbird the port it asks for is of your mail server i.e.smtp, pop3, imap

and not of squid

the best place to implement squid is on mozilla or any other internet browser to implement caching or security purpose

or you can be little be more descriptive what you want to do exactly
because the information you have come up with is confusing
