Thunderbird Problems

Here the problem, last night when I opened up Thunderbird, it had a prompt. Now in that prompt it had two Profiles lists like Default and Default user or something like that I cant exactly remember. Then I had an option to Exit or Start. So i clicked on Start (I think) and it started a whole new BLANK page with all my saved messages in Drafts and all my sent messages in Sent. I mean just everything was wiped out. All my important messages saved in Drafts folder was gone. I mean everything so to speak.

I dont have a clue on what I did or anything. And this happened to me twice already. My email works fine and everything. Only some settings had to be changed the way I wanted it to be.

If anyone could help me on how to retreive my old messages and how to avoid this in the future then please help. This very very aggravating.

I want to know exactly where I could retrieve my old messages. I went to /var/spool/mail/user and found nothing. What heck did I do?
