Thunderbird install on Fedora (FC3)

Hi there,

I am quite a newbie on a Linux machine for desktop use and encounter the following problem:

installing Thunderbird on FC3. I gunzip the .....tar.gz and then untar. I check the rights and it has execute right (r+x). Next I try to run the thunderbird file (./thunderbird or sh thunderbird or double click). But it does not execute. Also in graphical mode it shows no 'sh' sign.
I did the same thing on my Fedora core 2 and it worked. Now in FC3 it does not.

Can anyone help please?

Saludos Marcel

Run from console, and see what output is posted to the console. Some errors probably, if the thing won't start.

I run it with 'sh thunderbird' getting the following error:
"./thunderbird-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libXp.so.6: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory"

and runnning with './thunderbird' it says "Bash: thunderbird: No such file or directory"

I do not understand why... anyone??

Anyway, I found a workaround. I am ashamed
does this help finding the solution? I hope, thanks!! I must have been blind: Thunderbird can be selected on the FC3 distribution. So I now added the RPM from disk2 instead of trying the tar.gz (which I still dont understand wqhy it is not working)
