ThizLinux mounting cd problem
 

I just got a new computer with a C3 processor and ThizLinux 7.0, I've never used linux before and I'm having problems with the CD RoM and DVD ROM. the computer came with the CD ROM, and I installed the DVD ROM (physically).
When Linux comes up, I can see two icons for the Cd's (cdrom and cdrom1) but when I click on them I get errors, cd not mounted, no medium, etc.
at one point it even seemed like both CD's lost power and I had to manually open them with a paperclip, but then I rebooted and there was power again, but I still couldn't get it to work.
Could this be a master\slave problem in my installation?
Or are there settings I need to know about to get the cd's mounted?
How do I get Linux to recognize them both?

Any help or pointers are greatly appreciated, even if it's just to tell me where to go and read about understanding the whole scheme better, it's kinda confusing since there are so many distributors I don't know if the information will apply to my release...

cd not mounted, no medium, that just means their is no cd is in the drive

the first error is cd not mounted, it also says that it could be because of an fs file problem
I'm working with two devices the CDROM and the DVDROM, so they both say that the cd is not mounted.
But then I put a cd in, like a music cd, and it tells me that there is no medium.
One error happens after the other.

have you tried to do into a terminal and typing the mount command??

I just got the computer last night, never used linux before at all.
I'm not sure what the terminal means or what the mount command is, but what I did see was on a tool bar it had a mount command and I did try that, a box came up for about 5 seconds and it looked like it was going to do something because it had one of those progress bars that tracks the percent completed from 0 - 100, but it just flashed and went away without any progress and then nothing at all happened and the errors continued.
I'm using ThizLinux 7.0 on a Great Quality computer with a C3 processor

if you look at the menu you will see something that says terminal or aterm or kterm or eterm or something like that. if you are familiar with windows then it would be called the "C prompt". this is what i feel is the best thing ever. you can run apps from it or anything you want. this allows you to get the best of both worlds, gui (graphical user interface) and cli (command line interface). find one of these terminals and type in this without the quotes "mount /etc/cdrom" that should work. if it says that only root can mount this device or something like this the you will have to go into superuser mode. type "su" <ENTER> "password" replacing the password that was created for "root". then try the mount command. if this doesn't work then you may need to go to the distro website and see if that particular distro supports the cdrom. and if all of this doesn't work i would suggest going to Mandrake or Red Hat for their latest distro and install that.
