this problem is so small


ahh i have no idea on how to install hardware with linux....I cannot get into kde and i am trying to surf the net with my linux box..How do you configure modems and how do you browse the net with the command line???????????

Im sure this is dead easy to figure out thanks

Need more info before we can help, what distro/kernel/modem/video card and any error messages you get when trying to startx etc.

i have a s3virge 86c325 well thats what it says in harddrake and a external 33.6 modem. I also get messages when i start kde such as unable to open display and cannot connect to x server and $display is not set despite the fact that i ran xf86config before..

Go to /var/log/XFree86.0.log and post any error messages from the end. As for the modem you need to check what serial port its on (com1 in windows is ttyS0 in linux) etc, also the irq it uses is important.
