The User Database Cannot be Read
 

I get this error while trying to run Users and Groups on Red Hat 9. Any ideas why it cant read the database and how i can fix it? /etc/passwd still exists and opens fine.

look for any typos in your /etc/passwd file

entries should look like

username:x:500:500::/home/username:/bin/bash

the 500 numbers may change
