The system administrator has disabled your account?

I am completely new to linux and I have a couple of questions.

I installed my ubuntu and chose "matej" as username then I upgraded to version 8.04 (at least I think it's 8.04). Then I wanted to add a system user, so I went into the terminal and wrote the command adduser --system andrej. I changed andrej's password and then tried to log on to his account but it said The system administrator has disabled your account (or something like that). I went back to the terminal, wrote sudo su and my password to become root, and tried the command users-admin. It took me to user management but I couldn't change the settings of any user except matej.

a) How can I enable the account andrej?
b) How can I make it so that the andrej user will be able to become root with his password as well?
c) Why can't I edit other accounts with the users-admin command even if I'm root?

are you sure to be root ?

perhaps, you 're not authorized anymore to become root ...

Another way:
sudo su -
passwd root

next time, a "su -" will be enough

look, here's a screenshot of what I wrote and what the user settings box looks like when I use the users-admin command:

so when I manage to be able to edit other users' settings, how do I enable an account?
and I want both passwords to work to become root (mine and the one from user andrej).

is it legitimate and allowed and can be done to make another user account set uid and gid to null 0 to make another root account with different name and possibly not damage the debian system creating and using that new account BenJoBoy Linux - Newbie 12 01-29-2006 11:02 AM
